Tom and Jerry

I guess Tom and Jerry was my favourite cartoon in my childhood, I mean, I remember that I used to watch a lot of cartoons, but this is the one I remember the most.

When I was a kid I spent a lot of times with my mother’s parents and sometimes I stayed for days in their house and in the mornings, when I was still in bed, my grandmother used to bring the breakfast  and turn on the telly and there was Tom and Jerry, every weekend morning to entertain me. I used to watch it with her and, sometimes, with my grandfather.

It was very funny , I had a good time watching them and I always was waiting for the moment when Tom catch Jerry to eat him, but that’s never going to happen .

Nowadays, I sometimes see it, and it is still funny to me, but it is not how it used to be when I was a child because nobody brings the breakfast to bed anymore L. I think that was the best thing of seeing Tom and Jerry, it is not the cartoon itself; it is the great time I used to spend with my grandparents.

90's technology

Well, I am not very keen on technology nowadays but I can talk about my favourite piece of technology in the 90’s, when I was a child. I loved it then and I love it now, I am talking about the” Super Nintendo “

The first time this marvelous thing arrived to my home (I do not remember when that happened exactly) I was very curious. I remember that I used to watch my older brothers playing and then I started to play too and I loved it. I used to play Super Mario Bross and Mortal Combat, then Killer Instinct, Donkey Kong and Megaman and I do not remember more, I was just a kid.

With the pass of the years, I forgot that it was there, I was worried about other things, but the last year, all I wanted was to play with it, so I took it from my parent house, and brought to my actual home and I played once, twice, three times, and so on.

I do  not why, but I like it a lot. The only problem is that the games are expensive because they are all original, you cannot copy it. But I really does not matter, 'couse I use to borrow them to my friends :)

Cuchito :)

Dear all, this time I want to introduce you Cuchito. In the winter on 2010, I was feeling very sad, I had a big heartache, I was very depressed, but one day, a very close friend in that time, arrived to my home with a little shoe box. I had no idea what it was, till I hear a sound; “meow” and then again; “meow” and there was he.  When Cuchito arrived, he was just a month and was one of the cutest things I have ever seen in my life.  I am so grateful that he arrived to my life because, I do not why, but he was like a support to me, he always made me laugh and he was so obedient, cute, and adorable, he has everything. I liked to be at home and invite friend so they can meet him, Cuchito always was the life of the party, I can say I miss to party with Cuchito haha.

I still remember when I took this picture. It was a cold morning, I did not want to get up and I was boring, so I started to take him pictures, and this one was the one I liked the most.

Sailing on gondolas

If there is a country that I would like to go to, it is Italy, particularly Venice. I found it so lovely, its canals, its houses, its squares, almost everything!.The architecture is gorgeous. Venice has beautiful big buildings and cute little bridges. I like it because it has no cars, that means, no smog, no bothering noises,no honking, no nothing! What I do not like is the smell. Peolpe say that it does not smell very well, that it stinks actually. People also say that it is very expensive and I do not like that either.
I do no tknow so much about it, apart of the gondola riding, what it is something I would love to do. I also would like to have a walk through its small streets and its squares.
If I would have the chance to live there, I would like to have a big house and rent bedrooms for tourists, or have a coffe shop or maybe, have a gondola enterprise, like cabs company, but with gondolas. It would be fun, but slow.

Myths

Well, the mythology is not really my thing, I do not know much aboout it, but these days, my closer classmates (I will not tell you their names) have been talking a lot about the movie "The Avengers" specially about a character called Thor. That is not everything, we began to see pictures and videos and stuff and I started  to get very interested in that guy, I mean the character, obviously.
Anyway, I have been looking on internet some info about Thor, and well, I know and I think that everybody knows that he is the God of the thunder, he comes from the Nordic and Germanic mythology and he uses a hammer. I also read that when Christianity was invading (because that is what they were doing, invading) Thor was "demonized", I mean, to the christian people, Thor was some kind of demon to them, How ridiculous is that? But it does not matter because Thor still alive in the Germanic folklore.
I found more info but, it is too much, I will not write more about it.
Chris Hemsworth as Thor in The Avengers (2012)I will leave you a photograph of the guy of The Avengers" and another of an illustration of Thor, you decide which did you liked the most ;)

Voivod!!

Last year, in March, my boyfriend (BF) had to work for a gig in Teatro Caupolican and he was very exited because his favourite band, Voivod, was coming to town, so he took me with him, to share that special moment. I wasn't really keen on going, I have heard the band before and I liked it, but I wasn't a real fan. Anyway, I had to go anyway to work as a translator there.
I remember that the band arrived one day before the gig and BF had to go to pick them up at the airport. When he came back home, he took me to meet the guys of the band on a bar. I had to run  because BF didn't want to waste any moment with them. When I arrived there were the guys; Snake, Dan, Blacky, Away and Kaz, who was the manager. There was also another friend of BF, Igor. I met the guys, and they were really cool.
The next day, I went with BF to Teatro Caupolican and we spent more time with the guys, while they were checking sound and stuff like that. At night, when Voivod was about to play, I went with the public and saw the guys from there. I had good time. I guess that I am a fan now hahaha. When the show was over, we went to a bar with the guys and people from other bands who also played that night. We were talking and drinking and smoking and laughing. We really had a great time with the guys.
The day after that, they went to Antofagasta to play, but BF and I stayed here because we went to see Journey at Movistar Arena. It was a fantastic weekend actually.
On Sunday, Voivod arrived, and we went to leave the guys at the airport, we share a little bit and we said goodbye to each other, then we left. It was so sad because we started a nice friendship.

The great gig in the sky

When I was 15 years old I wanted to be an astronomer, I think that dream last till today.
I loved to stay in my bedroom, with the lights off and watch the stars and the moon from my window, specially those nights were the moon was full. It was stunning. I started to dream about myself in an observatory with another astronomers watching the stars, the planets, galaxies, black holes and stuff like that. I felt very curious about all the things that happen in the universe, because there are a lot of things.I also dreamed with find a new planet and earn a lot of money with that, but the money wasn't really important to me in that time, I just wanted to be in front of a big telescope and listen Pink Floyd, as I am doing now to write this post. I also liked to stick those phosphorescent star in my bedroom's ceiling. When I was 16, I got a real telescope, I was 3000 times more than happy, I can't explain it now, but that day, I was really really happy. I couldn't wait until night arrives and when that happend I was ready with my telescope in my bedroom's window. I already had a book about astronomy, so I new that the brightest star in the sky was Sirius, I saw it perfectly. Then I saw Saturn with its rings, which were so very clear that I could distinguish its colours. Finally, I couldn't see the moon because it was new, but it didn't matter, I could see it another day and hen I finally saw it with the telescope, it was the most beautiful thing that I have never seen I my life, I think I cried xD.
Well, with the years, that dream was dying down, the subject related with astronomy were too difficult for me, and to be honest, I didn't like them either, the science wasn't my thing.
Now, I still love watching the sky, but I will never earn money with that.

The Simpsons

I'm sure you all know what it this tv serie about, or at least you've herad of it, well this is my favourite show by far.

The Simpsons tells the story of a middle class family and its adventures. This group of characters is compound by Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie, where Homer is the main charachter, althou the others are very important for the development of the story.

The character I like the most is Bart... no, its Homer...or Marge? or Maggie? I'm not really sure of that, but what I can say is that I like the less is Lisa, she is so correct, tidy and boring. I feell dull when I see her.

I like this tv show because they make fun of their own culture, their own country, their own lifestyles, they make everyone looks ridiculous. I love that. I like also the sarcasm they use. It makes me laugh. I think its hilarious.

There are also another series that are very funny and make another people look stupid, maybe The Simpsons is not so different from others tv shows, but this is definitely the chosen one for me.

See ya!

We must to be careful...

Mi mejor enemigo

The first time I saw this movie, It didn't mean anything to me, I don't even remember when was the first time I saw it, but  I watched it again a couple of months ago, and I noticed the background of it, its real meaning. But first, I'm gonna tell you what it is about.

This is a chilean-argentinean movie, it take place in the chilean.argentinean patagony in 1978 . It tells the story of those soldiers who jeopardize their lives for no rason at all and at the end of the war, nobody takes care of them and nobody remember what they did to protect the country. In this movie we can see a Chilean troop and an Argentinean troop. Both are lost in the patagony. With the time they strarted to think that they were fighting an unnecessary war and they became friends.

I liked this movie because it made me realize that in the world are too many fights and wars that are totally unnecessary. Innocent people die every day because of this and because of the ambition and the selfishness of some.

Culture Clash

When I read that we have to write about culture clash, nothing came to my mind, I didn't know what to say (what to write in this case), so I began to search about it and I saw a couple of things. For example, I found out that it is also known as "culture shock", but this has a different connotation, maybe a sad meaning, at least that's what I feel about it. Anyway, I found a definition for culture clash that is more appropiate: "When one or more cultures are integrated into one environment, causing disruption and challenging contemporary traditions. Often occurs in multicultural societies." (I'll add the source at the end of the post). When I read this I immediately I started to think in which places this happens, and then the same again, nothing came to my mind. But then I thought: " which is the city what recieves the biggest amount of immigrants every year? New York city. I don't know if I am right, but it is true that a lot of foreign people arrives to NY. It has its Afro-American hood, its Hispanic hood, its Italian hood, its Chinese hood, its Guayanes hood and its jewish hood. I can Imagine all the culture that is mixed there, even if they have their own neighbourhoods.
I don't think I have experinced a culture clash situation lately, so I think that's all for now :)

Music!

This is something that really means a lot to me. Since I was 15, music has been one of the thing that has change my life, it changes it until now. It makes me feel a lot of things, depending of the kind of music of course. When I was a teenager, I love heavy metal, it made me feel so alive and energetic that I had to spend that energy in something, then I started to play the drums, and it made feel so free, I loved that sensation. Then, as I was growing up, I started to get interested in the rock of the 70's, because it was very relaxing and it made me fly. Nowadays, my tastes in music has change. Now I like to listen rock and pop of the 80's, because , the feeling i had about it, is something in the middle of what a feel with heavy metal and rock of the 70's. During all that time, since I started to play the drums, I tastes in music have influenced what I played with my bands. First, we hace a tribute band to Metallica, then I had a tribute band to Pink Floyd, then we started to create our own music, but it was different to all what I've done before.

My boyfriend introduced me a band that I really like now called Journey, but what I like the most is the drummer, Deen Castronovo. I have to say he is one of my favourites drummers in the world. Here I leave you guys a video where Deen also sings. He has everything :)

bilingualism

When I started to  search about what bilingualism is, there were a ton of info on internet,  of course, I didn't read a thing, so I will keep my idea of what bilingualism is; the capacity of speak, read, listen and write two different languages, as simple as that.
Apart of English, there are another idioms I would like to learn, for example, Italian and German, but I think it is too much for me, even thou there are relation between Spanish and Italian, and German and English, so they would be easy to learn. In any case, I have to get focus on English, cause is my priority.
I once had an experience has a translator, well in that case, as an intrpret, it was difficult because it was my first time, so I was nervous. I remember when the spanish speaker was talking, I was trying to keep the ideas on mi mind and find the proper word in English, but meanwhile I was forgeting the other ideas, everything was a mess, I didn't knew what to say. At the end, I just said  some sentences, and nothing else. I was so ashamed and uncomfortable. I didn't knew what to do.

This is a video I want to share with all fo you guys, If there is a language we all know, is the music language. This is Bobby Mcferring with an interesting experiment. Enjoy!

Writing

Here I am, with my classmates in class. Every Wesnesday I'm going to be here writing about ... I don't know, writing stuff.
Even if I sometimes find it boring, I like it. The last year we used to use handout every class and it was dull, but to make a blog is more entertaining, and we can use it for other kind of purposes, I hope so. So if every class is going to be like this one, I promise I will come to class every Wednesday! at least in the afternoons ;)
I hope to learn a lot of things about the language in this course, couse' there are a ton of things I have no idea, and will be useful for the other courses.
I also want to know more about the methods to teach grammar, it is something I would like to teach in the future.
